Twitter made an unneeded modification that makes it harder to see a chronological feed by default, frustrating millions of users. According to the firm, the Home timeline will be pinned first by default, but by swiping left on Home, users may instantly access the Latest timeline.
The feature is currently only available on iOS, but it will soon be available on Android and the web.
Several Twitter users have expressed their displeasure with the adjustment.
"Explain why that is the default rather than the most recent. You can turn people off by forcing your algorithms and exposing them to undesired information. The answer isn't 'simply swipe,' but rather 'don't force it.' "One user made a tweet.
Another disgruntled user wrote: "For me, the most recent 'latest tweets' was 6 hours ago, and 'home' was 1 minute ago? I'm not sure how any of this makes sense."
Twitter has stated that it welcomes user feedback. This feature was originally tested by the microblogging platform in October of last year.
"You know what would be faster? Leaving it like it is or letting consumers select. You're adding an extra swipe that is unneeded - it's not even just correcting a problem that didn't exist," one user responded.
In 2016, Twitter launched its algorithmic timeline, and in 2018, the sparkle icon was introduced to allow users to switch between algorithmic and reverse chronological feeds.
